Ad Transparency Tools
you can now see any ad a brand is running on social.
With all of the recent issues with data security across platforms, Facebook and Twitter are taking steps to remedy the situation. There isn’t a clear fix for the problems they had (re: Cambridge Analytica), but ad transparency tools have been released to better help consumers understand what ads brands are running.
The Facebook ad transparency tool will show you any ad that a brand is currently running.
Here’s how to get there:
Mobile:
Go to any brands page
Click on the italic “i” - below the cover photo and above their brand name on the right hand side of the screen
Select the “Active Ads” tab
Desktop:
Go to any brands page
Click on “Info and Ads” - below the cover photo and categories on the left hand side of the screen
This allows you to see all ads running on this brand’s page across Facebook and Instagram (stories included).
The Twitter transparency tool shows you any ad that runs over the past 7 days (different from Facebook).
Mobile & Desktop:
Go to https://ads.twitter.com/transparency
Search advertisers - search bar at the top right of the screen
Although you can’t see who they’re targeting or how much money they’re spending, it provides insight into what type of content they’re promoting and how many ads they have running at once. Whether you want to use it as a consumer to understand what advertisers are promoting, or you want to look up competitors to see the content they’re putting money behind - it is a helpful tool available to all users!
